Monthly Seminar: Divorce and Your Family

   The Importance of Children’s Therapy in Divorce

Presented by Marisa Etting‚ M.A.‚ L.C.M.H.C.‚ This informational presentation will provide parents with an understanding of the importance of both group and individual therapy for children of divorcing and divorced parents‚ the challenges that children face while trying to adjust to the separation of their parents and how parents can detect and respond to their needs in a constructive and supportive way.

Marisa has extensive experience dealing with children in crisis and transition. She has worked as a clinician with both the NAFI Professional Parent Program and Children’s Intensive Services. She has spent three years as a Case Manager for East Bay Mental Health Center and three years working as a Youth Support Worker with Community College of Bristol County. Marisa has also been an AmeriCorps Volunteer‚ Relief Residential Counselor‚ Teaching Assistant‚ Peer Mentor and Research Assistant.

When: The Last Thursday of Each Month at 6:30PM. Admission is $25 for the General Public and Free for DRCRI clients. Call 401–228–8789 or E–Mail for more information as seating is limited.

   Knowlege is Power: Components of A Successful Divorce Financial Strategy

Take a positive step forward by learning how to prepare for the challenging financial transition you’ll face throughout your divorce. Designed for individuals considering or currently involved in a divorce, the presentation and materials provided will guide you through the various financial issues you’ll need to address before‚ during and after your divorce.
Topics to be covered will include:

  • Financial organization and budgeting
  • Dividing up Assets and Debt
  • Retirement Accounts (IRA’s & 401K’s)
  • Investing and Wealth Creation
  • Income Protection and Insurance
  • College Savings Accounts

When: The First Monday of Each Month at 6:30PM. Admission is $25 for the General Public and Free for DRCRI clients. Call 401–228–8789 or E–Mail for more information as seating is limited.


Divorce Support & Recovery Groups


Fall Divorce Support & Recovery Group classes for Women and Children begin again in early September 2009. Please check back later this Summer for dates and times.


   Women’s Divorce Support Group

Beginning May 14th‚ 2009 we will offer a five session Divorce Support Group for Women. Facilitated by Alyson Franz‚ M.S.W.L.I.C.S.W.‚ the group will focus on the stages of grief during a divorce‚ self–esteem and women’s issues‚ moving forward and the healing process. The group will be tailored in part to the needs of individuals participating in the group

Alyson has over 8 years experience working with families and individuals in crisis and transition. Her experience with serving the RI community has included clinical and case management services at various such as The Providence Center‚ Family Service of RI‚ John Hope Settlement House‚ Action Based Enterprises and The International Institute of RI. She is currently in private practice and additionally is affiliated with Informed Interventions (formerly Dr. Sparadio & Associates).

When: Every Other Thursday from 6:30PM to 7:30PM beginning May 14th‚ 2009. (5/14‚ 5/28‚ 6/11‚ 6/25‚ 7/16) Participation is $15 per person or $25 for a mother and child/ren. Call 401–228–8789 or E–Mail for more information as seating is limited.

This group will run simultaneously with the Children’s Support Group listed below on the same dates and times.

   Children’s Support Group

Beginning May 14th‚ 2009 we will offer a five session Children’s Support Group focusing on improving social skills and feelings expression for children dealing with a variety of issues including bullying‚ divorce‚ shyness‚ anxiety‚ depression‚ etc. Facilitated by Marisa Etting‚ M.A.‚ L.C.M.H.C. (see Marisa’s bio above) activities may include role–play‚ game play‚ writing activities‚ arts and crafts activities‚ etc. The group is open to children ages 7–11‚ however older children can join the group as “mentors”‚ which will provide them with an opportunity to take a leadership role and model good behavior for the younger group members.

When: Every Other Thursday from 6:30PM to 7:30PM beginning May 14th‚ 2009. (5/14‚ 5/28‚ 6/11‚ 6/25‚ 7/16) Participation is $15 per person or $25 for a mother and child/ren.
